A Milano per Klimt - Going to Milan for Klimt

Poca Poca fila ...
The long queue

It' simply impossible not to be enchanted by the art exhibition "Klimt, the origins of a myth" which, from the 12th of March till the 13th of July 2014, is taking place at the Royal Palacein Milan.
Despite the bad reviews read online - that's why I was not expecting a lot from this exhibition - I really have to admit that it has been such an amazing and interesting experience.
Of course, you cannot pretend to find in all the well known and too much commercialized art works which are normally referred to Gustav Klimt. You won't find any of "The kiss" or " The three ages of the woman". Actually, you will find just few ot the Klimt's art works which could be defined "simbolyst", althought gorgeous - there you will see patintings like "Salomè", "the sunflower", "Adamo ed Eva", ecc ....
The purpose of this exhibition was to tell, thanks to the collaboration with the "Belvedere Museum" of Wien, the life, the family, the sorrows, the passion, the vocational training, the studies and the stylistic changes of the artist, through some art works not so well known, alhought amazing, and through sketches and projects and some works of other artists as well, part of his own group, as the brother Ernst and the colleague Franz Matsch.
The exhibition brings you through a detailed jouney, which allows you to understand better this artist both under the artistic and  psychological profile, especially thankg to the audio - guides, which are provided for free at the entrance and which perfectly describe the style and the contents of the displayed works.
Everybody knows Klimt for his precious symbolism, but nobody knows, or cares, that he was incredibly good as a realist painter, a style which he devoted during the first years of his activity.
The art work which, in this art exhibition, I loved most, belongs to this painting style : "Portrait of a woman in black" (scroll up to see the picture).
We have been waiting for one hour and a half before getting in, but it has detinitely been worth it ! We had the bad idea to come to visit the art exhibition on Saturday morning wihout booking any reservation. Luckily, the weather was gorgeous, warm and sunny and we also had the chance to attend a Wedding.

For the ones who wish to go to the Royal Palace for the Klimt exhibition, I highly recommend to go during the week, avoiding the week - end, or to book on - line on http://www.ticket4art.it/

Times
On Monday from 2,30 pm to 7,30 pm.
From Tuesday to Sunday from 9,30 am to 7,30 pm
On Thursday and on Saturday the closing time is at 10,30 pm.

After our visit, since it was lunch time, my mum, my auntie Sabrina and I decided to look for a nice place where to eat, being carefull not to choose a bloody expensive one. This is not an easy claim if you are in the main centre of Milan. So we decided to head to Brera, 5 minutes walking from the Duomo Square, where all the typical - and not so expensive - restaurants, bars and pubs are based. Here, we spotted out a nice Bakery called "Princi" with a lovely design, where they offer fresh and homemade dishes everyday: pasta, salads, sandwiches. And the price is good as well !

You can choose between going for the self - service option or with table service. My auntie and I got a turkey sandwich with bacon and egg, so tasty ! My mum took the daily : "gnocchi alla romana" with cheese sauce. Not a light dish, but simply delicious !

After chilling out ... you really need to go around the city centre of Milan, having a look to the amazing shops over there. But the Duomo was so beautiful, especially on a such sunny day, that we almost spent the whole afternoon on taking pictures of it.

Stay tuned !
